A time like this I remember Mr Stephen Nyakundi my teacher of English in class six at St.Marys Mosocho Primary School. At the time he took us through a passage based on a story title "The noisy Hornbill" 

In this famous story, the little hornbill kept making noise in the forest but only one animal, the lady bird was concerned. The lady bird was concerned that ultimately the noise would bring trouble to the entire forest. He took a walk to the banana and asked it to tell the hornbill to stop the noise but he said, "hornbill's pain is hornbill's pain, besides there is no danger." He went to the mushroom, the bush rope, the tortoise and others all that dismissed him with the same statement as that of the banana. 

At the peak of the noise, a hunter crept into the bush and aimed at the noise making hornbill patched at top branch of the pine tree. With one successful shot, the hornbill dropped down only metres away from the mushroom. As he collected the hornbill, he was glad he had double luck, he collected the mushroom. A tortoise that had been walking by caught his eyes and he collected it too. Now he had only one problem, he needed a carrier. At that point he cut banana leaves, wrapped them together, cut the hanging bush rope, tied it nicely and carted them away to please his wife and children. Hornbill's pain was now everybody's pain. Hornbill had brought problem to the entire forest through his action.

The Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has called for individual responsibility in slowing the spread of corona virus. We must know that any single act of carelessness by one person can bring trouble to us all. We must therefore be careful to avoid circumstances that compromises our collective well being. More than ever, one person's pain should be a pain for us all.
