As Christians celebrated Christmas Day across the world, faithful of the African Christian Church and Schools (ACCS) in Ndakaini, Murang'a County, received a special gift; a new church building from Royal Media Services (RMS) Chairman Dr. S.K Macharia and Vice-Chairperson Mrs. Gathoni Macharia.
The church, which has been under construction for the last one year, was officially opened by ACCS Moderator Jeremiah Ngumo in the presence of Dr. Macharia, Mrs Macharia, Nominated Senator Betty Montet, their family members and friends at a colourful ceremony.
Dr. Macharia said he built the church for the community as a way of giving back to a community that supported his dream to pursue further studies in the United States.
"About three years ago I was given a chance to speak here and I said was thinking of demolishing the church that was here and build a new modern church, because it was an old building that was built very many years ago,” he said.
I remember when we were schooling here many years ago, class one was in one corner, class two in another corner, class three in another corner, and later on when there was the state of emergency the school was converted to a military camp.”
The RMS Chairman thanked the people of Ndakaini for the contribution they made when he first expressed his intentions to fly to the United States for further studies.
"The one thing I am grateful to the people of Ndakaini about, is how they came together to support me financially. When I wanted to go to the US, the ticket was Ksh.4,000. My father had to sell everything, and he raised Ksh.1,200, and that money came from organising dances in this area,” he said.
On her part, Mrs Macharia noted that building the church had been a life-long dream of Dr. Macharia.
"Thank you for supporting Dr. Macharia’s vision to build this church, because it is possible to make such requests in other places and people refuse,” she said.
Mr Ngumo held prayers for Dr. Macharia and his family for his generosity in ensuring that they get a modern church building to worship in.
