The Government will restore National Police reservists in fourteen counties that are prone to bandits attacks, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has said.

After a tour in Kerio Valley, the CS said the number will be enhanced from the previous 10,000 reservists who had been designated in the regions facing insecurity.

“The decision to withdraw the nearly 10,000 reservists abruptly and without basis has caused great loss of innocent lives and deprivation of property,” he wrote on Tuesday.

“The new measure will go a long way in supplementing the work of the specialized formed units in preventing and thwarting the security threats posed by marauding bandits,” Kindiki added.

The Interior CS was accompanied by his Transport and Infrastructure counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen, where they visited a family that lost two daughters after a bandit attack on Sunday.

The two, a Form Three student and her younger sister who is a Class Seven pupil died after the bandits sprayed them with bullets before stealing the family livestock they were herding.

“I commend my colleague Prof.Kindiki for the swift response&for putting in place the mechanism to return the Police Reservists as part of the initial steps to address the problem,” Murkomen said.

Since taking over the security docket, Kindiki has vowed to “crush bandits” and bring an end to the rampant livestock disputes in 2023.
