2022 hasn’t been particularly great for Safaricom customers because some of the decisions the company has made have been anti-consumer, and this has been evident on social media platforms following a ton of complaints. The telco now compels customers to redeem their Bonga Points else it makes them expire; it does not roll over Postpay minutes anymore (only data will be rolled over); although this is not limited to Safaricom only, the telco has nonetheless been at the forefront in lobbying for the return of bank to mobile money charges and vice versa, which it has done successfully because the charges will be here from 2023; and let’s not forget it introduced data caps on Home Fibre in a move to tame resellers, which remains to be one of its most controversial decision to date.

Nonetheless, there are some decisions it has made that are generally good for the consumer. It has since reduced the price for All in One bundle and Postpay, which are now under a single plan called Go Monthly. It also reduced the charges levied on its overdraft facility, Fuliza.

The same is also applying to paybill charges, where some prices have been cut by more than half.

The move comes as an appreciation of increased usage by customers making payments using M-PESA Paybill for services – Safaricom

The carrier adds that this move affects paybill in an effort to ensure affordability and mitigate the prevailing economic challenges faced by customers.
