Scores of Embu farmers near the overflowing hydro-electricity-producing Masinga Dam have lost crops worth hundreds of thousands, and also displaced after it burst its banks
The farmers at Kithechu village in Makima Ward, Mbeere South Sub-County have appealed for assistance from the county and national governments after their farms which near the dams’ spillway were flooded and their farms covering a length of about 100meters were submerged by water.
The farmers expressed frustrations that they will face famine and be unable to make money and meet family needs as they rely on the crops in the farms which were flourishing very well but have now been destroyed.
Embu County Government’s Makima Ward administrator Samson Mwonga Kitonyi who assessed the destruction expressed grief that the farmers have been hard it by the floods following heavy rainfall that has been pounding the area, noting they have never had such experience for many years.
