NEWLY published documents have revealed how a single call led to "unauthorised" access of the WhatsApp servers - leaving hundreds of users at risk. Here's what you need to know about this latest WhatsApp hack.
WhatsApp, the most popular chat app on the planet, has finally outlined how 1,000 of its users were targeted by hacking software, known as Pegasus. WhatsApp claims that Pegasus gained "unauthorised access" to its servers by reverse-engineering the messaging app
Pegasus was able to evade WhatsApp's security features and managed to manipulate the way calls are made on the popular messaging service. The hacking software could be installed on smartphones with nothing but a single WhatsApp call, even if the call wasn't answered.
Thankfully, the vulnerability found in WhatsApp that was exploited by Pegasus was uncovered in May 2019 and has been updated to close the loophole in the months since to protect against this kind of hack.
