Paul Merson, a former Arsenal player, has warned his former club that the match in the Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid is not yet sewn up.

Arsenal got closer after they thrashed Real Madrid 3-0 in a match played at their Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening.

England defender Declan Rice scored two goals through free kicks, with Mikel Merino scoring the third goal, and giving the Gunners a great chance heading into the second leg.

Although Arsenal now has the lead, Real Madrid has the reputation of always pulling off miracles when it comes to the Champions League tournament.

Merson, speaking about the game, said: “Honestly, all these Champions League quarter-final games have had great performances and high-quality goals.”

“But I don’t believe that the game between Arsenal and Real Madrid is over. This will be a tough game that the Gunners will have to endure.”

“Real Madrid’s attacking quartet will be better in the second leg; if they score early, there will be too much pressure.”

Merson went on, “In my opinion, PSG are playing with confidence, and it’s a confidence that I have not seen in this tournament so far.”

“Respect to Aston Villa, but I would fancy PSG to make the final. If Arsenal and Real Madrid face each other in the semi-finals, I would still believe that they can win.”

Before the match between Arsenal and Brentford in the Premier League, Merson stated that he does not see Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta playing all of his best players.

“So, I think he will rest some of his players for the Brentford game,” Merson said.
